Learning Outcome # 3

Learning Outcome # 3

I believe the pages of annotated essays that I have attached show my reading practices and my approach to annotation as well as the reasons that I mark up a page. When annotating an essay, I make sure to use both highlighters, to mark the sentences, and pen, to leave comments and questions. When reading informative articles and essays, I always have questions that pop into my head, both rhetorical and answerable ones. I use annotation as a way to visually see my questions and it allows me to bring them up in class discussions later on. A lot of the time while I am reading I can get distracted easily so I also use annotations as a reminder of what I just read and my opinions on it. In the annotated pages I have attached, I have a combination of my many questions as well as anything I find interesting or new information that I learn. I use annotations as a way to show my thinking while reading as well. I make sure to highlight and mark up anything that I agree or disagree with as well as anything I just find interesting. I find that annotating helps me understand my stance on a topic better than I would if I was just reading the pages. I use my comments as a way to help me draw relationships between what I am reading and things in everyday life. The way that I annotate allows me to think deeper about what it is that I am reading as well, instead of just reading the words and moving on without thinking about the meaning behind them.
